About The Show:

An improv comedy show filled with all made-up musical fun! Featuring Improv Hawaii’s house musical team, Thoroughly Modern Biggie doing an improvised musical based on a live interview by a random audience member.

Entrance:

The entrance is on South Street between Auahi and Pohukaina. Walk down small steps and follow the hallway to the left. Wheelchair-accessible entrance off of Pohukaina St.

This class will take the tools learned in our 101 Basics classes and apply them to comedic long form improv scenes. Students will dive deep into finding the “funny” of their scenes, building relationships, identifying patterns, heightening within the scene and group games. Students will also be introduced to several different long form openings to help generate ideas for their scenes.

At the end of the 201C session, students will have the opportunity to perform a showcase for invited guests.

All classes are 2 hours long. Students will learn the value of “yes, and”-ing, listening, agreement, support, and more in a safe, nonjudgmental environment.

Prerequisite:

Must have completed 101A, 101B and 101C within 1 year

Intro To Sketch Comedy Writing

This course is an introduction to sketch comedy, specifically using “the game” to write short comedic scenes. Each week students will engage in writing exercises that will explore different sketch formats. Students will be exposed to different methods for turning funny ideas into even funnier written sketches. Students will leave the class with an understanding of popular sketch formats and a portfolio of writing.
No prior sketch writing experience is necessary — the only requirement for this class is a desire to write and learn. Students should have access to a computer and be prepared to work outside of class. 

Class length: Six 2 hour classes = 12 hours of instruction
Prerequisite: No Experience Needed

No edits, no sweeps, just you and your scene partner having a scene together filled with joy and spontaneity.  This class will help you practice for stronger scene initiations, continue to be in the moment, and how to “yes and” to the fullest.

Chris Renfro is a writer and performer at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in Los Angeles, CA*. He produces and co-hosts Gaysian AF as part of the hit variety show, Asian AF. Chris is also house team performer at The Second City Hollywood and an alumni of the CBS Diversity Sketch Showcase. *This class is NOT affiliated with The Upright Citizens Brigade All students should review the improvhi house rules before starting their classes.

Improv Comedy 201A (must have completed 101C)

This class will take the tools learned in our 101 Basics classes and apply them to comedic long form improv scenes. Students will dive deep into finding the “funny” of their scenes, building relationships, identifying patterns, heightening within the scene and group games. Students will also be introduced to several different long form openings to help generate ideas for their scenes.

At the end of the 201C session, students will have the opportunity to perform a showcase for invited guests.

All classes are 2 hours long. Students will learn the value of “yes, and”-ing, listening, agreement, support, and more in a safe, non judgmental environment.

Prerequisite: 101C within 1 year

Wednesdays- 3/13, 3/20, 3/27

Improv Comedy 301A (Must Have Completed 201A-C)

In this class, students will focus on heightening, patterns, third beats and group games to put together a “Harold” showcase at the end of 301c.

Prerequisite: Must have completed Improvhi Level 201c within 1 year.

All classes are 2 hours long. Students will learn the value of “yes, and”-ing, listening, agreement, support, and more in a safe, non judgmental environment.

Wednesdays: 5/22, 5/29, 6/5
