Improvisation and comedy writing are FANTASTIC tools for not only performers, but BUSINESS MINDED FOLKS as well! Improv helps you to think on your feet and outside of the box. Improv games and exercises support team building and group mind. Students walk away with more confident in themselves and their product and are ready to take on whatever the world throws at them! Sketch and comedy writing allows a business with true storytelling and how to capture an audience. Think about all the Superbowl commercials you’ve ever seen and which ones REALLY stand out to you. Mostly funny ones…right? Get your creative juices flowing and bring in more customers!
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
David Razowsky is the respected former artistic director of the Second City Los Angeles. As a performer at Second City he worked with Steve Carrel, Stephen Colbert, Rachel Dratch, and Chris Farley, among others. David has directed Second City in Chicago, Los Angeles, Detroit, and The Second City National Touring Company. David is a consultant for Dreamworks, and has directed two of Amsterdam’s Boom Chicago theatre’s productions– RockStars, and Live at the Leidseplein – Your Privacy is Our Business. He is a member of the Reduced Shakespeare Company, and performed in their sold-out run The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. He is a co-founder of The Annoyance Theatre, and has written for The Simpsons Comic, The Simpsons nationally syndicated Sunday comic strip, and was commissioned to write a film treatment for The Simpsons’ creator Matt Groening. David is the voice of Dixon, the world’s coolest adult, in ABC’s animated series, The Weekenders, and has appeared on Spin City, Roseanne, andLate Night with David Letterman as the voice of Albert Brook’s parrot.
ABOUT THE WORKSHOPS:
Viewpoints Elements – May 24th & 25th 10am – 4pm
While teaching for Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre School, Second City veteran David Razowsky was exposed to–and inspired by–the power of Anne Bogart and Tina Landau’s Viewpoints training, and immediately saw how the tools of Viewpoints play in improv theatre. Razowsky’s two-day master class will focus the actor to spontaneously respond through compulsion rather than what choice is “right or wrong.” The actor will learn the power of working from impulse and true-play in the present moment. Prepare to see your craft in a new light, prepare to see with new eyes, and prepare to be rejuvenated!
Group Scenes Reduced – May 26th 6:30pm-9:30pm
A group scene doesn’t have to be a confusing or feared clusterfunk. Get yourself into that scene! Razowsky’s workshop will show how the art of the three- person (+!) scene is simple once it’s broken down, leading you to stronger, challenging, surprising, and easy long-form scenes. Start it out right, heighten it, move it forward, and keep it moving. Come join us: we need you!
Sketch Comedy Writing – May 27th, 28th, 29th, 30th 6:30pm-9:30pm
Enjoy shows like “Saturday Night Live” or “Kids in the Hall” or “Mr. Show?” Ever think, “That would make a good sketch”? This class will cover the basics of sketch comedy writing. In one week students will learn structure, heighteing and discover various comedic styles. Through class, students will produce at least one sketch that can be performed on stage or produced for video.
