About the Workshop…
Day One: Sketch Writing In this class you will learn how to write a sketch from start to finish using the Upright Citizens Brigade “game of the scene” structure. You can bring in premises that we will flush out. Bring in already written sketches and we will simulate a real writers room to punch it up. How to write topical sketches, character sketches and more. We will also spend time focusing on how to hone your comedic voice through sketch.
Day Two: Sketch Performing In this class we will learn how to better perform sketch comedy. We will use already existing sketches to learn the best way to get the most laughs. Using the “game of the scene” we will hone in on what is funny about the scene and how can we maximize it. We will then focus on creating characters and how to use those characters in a showcase. Bring in exiting characters and learn tricks to make them stand out.
About the Instructor…
Holly is from Toronto, Canada. While performing comedy there, she won a Canadian Comedy Award for best sketch troupe, as a member of The Sketchersons. She joined the Second City Touring Company and also won MTV’s Yo Mamma: Canada. In 2008, she attended The Sundance Film Festival, where her film The Funeral was an official selection. She has appeared on IFC’s Comedy Bang Bang and The Birthday Boys.
Holly can now be seen performing at Upright Citizens Brigade Los Angeles. Last year she was asked to take over hosting duties of UCBTLA longest running weekly show “Not Too Shabby” hosting with Alana Johnston. She has appeared in countless Funny Or Die videos and is now appearing on “The UCB Show” on Sesso with Alana. Level: Open to all levels. No experience required.
What to bring: Something to write with: Laptop computer, iPad, Tablet, Journel, Stone and Chisel, etc.
Parking: Guest spots available in lot, street parking

$45 for each workshop or $80 for both
