DESCRIPTION:The ART OF ALLOWING IMPROV WORKSHOP is for the ensemble actor and improvisor who desires to cultivate the ability to flawlessly and spontaneously create magic on stage and in life. “IT” comes from a place of joy and connection to one’s source intuition\, and is attained by giving yourself to the art form through LISTENING rather than thinking\, from ALLOWING rather than forcing\, from being FULLY PRESENT in the moment and FOCUSING on CONNECTION with your partner and your environment. You will understand why making your partner look good makes you in turn look twice as good and makes the work flow. Ultimately\, you will understand that this is how ensemble is created.  \nThis workshop will focus on scene work. You will learn to develop tools to let scenes emerge organically\, including: \ncultivating a heightened sense of listening\ncultivating a heightened sense of awareness of the scene around you\, i.e. environment\, textures\, emotions\, body languages\, sounds\, etc.\nlearning the game within the scene\nmaking your partner look good\nfinding the joy in the exploration\ngetting out of your own way to allow creativity to flow\nunderstanding that the true magic lies in the synchronicity of you\, your partner and the audience all discovering a point of focus at the same time  \nABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:\nMark Beltzman has been acting\, writing and directing since 1981. He was a founding member of Improv Olympic in Chicago and of the legendary group\, Barons Barracudas. Mark has worked and directed at the famed Second City in Chicago. He directed many improvisational and theatrical productions at Second City in Chicago and Los Angeles\, including the Second City Alumni Jam. He was also instructor/director at The Second City Training Center\, Improv Olympic West and the Upfront Comedy Showcase as well as all over the UK\, London\, Brighton and Bristol. Mark has also acquired a great deal of knowledge about the creative process of producing\, writing and directing while performing in such notable productions as: “Mo Money\, ” “Billy Madison\,” “The Wedding Singer\, “Seinfeld\,” “Rosanne\,” “House\,” and “Pretty Little Liars” to name a few. \n“Mark Beltzman is the funniest and most talented improvisor that I have ever worked with. DESCRIPTION:THE FIREBALL THEORY\nThis workshop presents Jill Bernard’s Fireball Theory and offers exercises to help you improvise faster and harder than you can judge yourself. You will learn to metaphorically hit the scene running and outrun the explosion of self-loathing and doubt like an action movie hero outruns a fireball thus defying the laws of physics. Please wear closed toe shoes to this workshop. \nAbout The Instructor:\nJill Bernard has been performing with ComedySportz-Twin Cities since 1993\, and is a founding member of HUGE Theater in Uptown Minneapolis. Her one-woman improv piece\, Drum Machine\, has been featured in over forty improv festivals. She has taught and performed improv in Norway\, Australia\, Canada\, Argentina\, Peru\, Italy\, Germany and over thirty-five of the United States; and also on an episode of MTV “Made.” She is one-half of the duo SCRAM with Joe Bill of the Annoyance Theater. An Artistic Associate of the Chicago Improv Festival\, she has studied at the Annoyance Theater\, Improv Olympic\, the Brave New Workshop and other organizations; and is the recipient of the 2005 Chicago Improv Festival Avery Schreiber Ambassador of Improv Award\, and the 2007 Miami Improv Festival award for Best Solo Show. She was also the winner\, in January 2000\, of the Executive Vice President Award for outstanding contribution to Human Resources\, the highest award in the American Express Human Resources function. DESCRIPTION:Chickprov is a Ladies’ Only Workshop taught by Emmy Award winning writer and master improv instructor\, Rachel Hamilton. No Boys Allowed. This workshop will\, of course\, begin with a lingerie-clad pillow fight\, after which\, time permitting\, we will improvise. We will play with the intention of exploring the ways in which we as women have internalized what is culturally expected of us.• What do we not allow ourselves to say? To be?• Where do we hit our heads on our own permission of how we are allowed to behave?In this workshop we will look at the limiting beliefs we as female improvisers have ingested and play with getting that nonsense out of our systems . We will emerge as bolder improvisers who play fiercely\, with more freedom and truth. \nLight “Wine” Down and Chat Time directly following the workshop… \nLocation: \nProtoHub Honolulu\n458 Keawe Street\n(Park in lot on the side of the building) \nAbout the Instructor:\nRachel Hamilton is an accomplished Improvisational Actor\, Storyteller and is widely regarded as one of the best Improv teachers working today. A former Mainstage cast member at The Second City\, Chicago\, Rachel learned her craft from and with the best\, having shared the stage with geniuses like Tina Fey\, Amy Poehler\, Rachel Dratch\, Scott Adsit\, Nia Vardalos and many more incredible artists.Rachel began teaching almost twenty years ago and she feels passionately that Improv skills are great training for both theater and for life. Her teaching style is upbeat and nurturing – she creates a safe space where everyone can feel safe and supported\, and where everyone can do their best work. Rachel designs and implements improv workshops all over the country for both actors and non-actors\, offering Improv as a tool for training in performance as well as for personal development.\nBorn in DC\, Rachel has lived\, loved and worked in all the major cities; Chicago\, LA and most recently NYC. Last year\, in a conscious quest for more tranquility and natural beauty\, Rachel made the brilliant choice to move her base to Sausalito\, California and is delighted to be bringing her deep well of experience to the Bay Area’s vibrant Improv scene.\nRachel has worked as a performer and/or teacher for the following: The Second City (Chicago & LA)\, Magnet Theater (NYC)\, The Upright Citizen’s Brigade NYC)\, The Reduced Shakespeare Co\, 30 Rock\, Artistic New Directions (NYC)\, the Moth\, Syracuse University (Adjunct Prof.)\, Michael Howard Studios (NYC)\, as well as numerous corporate and private clients.\nRachel is also an Emmy-nominated writer and worked as part of the production team for the hit documentary\,Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work.
