He has been a Teaching Artist with the Alliance for Drama Education for 17 years\, creating innovative curriculum for grades K-12 having taught at public and private schools across the state. DESCRIPTION:About The Class:\nImprovisers! You’ve already got some skills…it’s time to step up your game! Hawaii’s TV and Film Industry is constantly growing. Now’s the time to prepare yourself to do your best work when you’re in the audition room. \nIn this class\, you will learn audition technique\, script analysis and scene work. Improvisers will learn essential tools to aid them in the business of acting and will learn how to create emotional truth on camera in a safe\, non judgmental environment. \nThe last 15-20 minutes of class will be used for a talk back about how to start putting yourself out there. \nAll levels welcome!\n*this class is limited to 12 students \nAbout The Instructor:\nSarah Halford is a Hawaii-born artist who has been acting professionally in Los Angeles for the last few years. She holds her Masters in Acting from one of the top grad schools in the country\, UC San Diego. While in Los Angeles\, she starred as Heather Chandler in the world premiere of Heathers: The Musical. Other professional TV and Film Credits include: “Anger Management\,” “Cristela\,” “Road Hard\,” with comedian Adam Carolla\, and numerous national commercials. Sarah has had experiences testing for top network pilots\, and circulating with the most prominent casting directors in Los Angeles and New York. Since moving home\, she was featured in the Hawaii premiere of Mamma Mia! at Diamond Head Theatre\, and received a Po’okela award for her performance. DESCRIPTION:This intermediate/advanced level class allows students to practice the essentials of long-form improv comedy. Students will learn to build scenes by “yes\, and”-ing\, activate their listening\, support their scene partners and to play in the reality to create fun and comedic improvised scenes. Students will play and learn in a safe\, non-judgmental environment. Students will have the opportunity to perform in an improv show at the end of the session. Some improv experience is suggested. Limited Space. \nClass Dates (UPDATED): \nMay 15\, 22\, 29 (No class on 5/1 and 5/8) \nJune 5\, 12\, 19\, 26 \nJuly 10 \nSorry\, there are no drop ins for this class. \nAbout the instructor: \nHawaii born actor Kimee Balmilero has been performing professionally since 1994 thanks to her first paying gig as “Woody Woodpecker” at an Earth Day Fair.  Other professional credits include: The 3X Emmy Nominated series “Hi-5\,” the Original Broadway Cast of “Mamma Mia\,” “Miss Saigon\,” and most recently\, the recurring role of Dr. Noelani Cunha on “Hawaii Five-0.” While working in NYC and LA for 15+ years\, she studied improv & sketch comedy at the famed Uprights Citizens Brigade Theatre in Hollywood. \nKimee has performed at such venues as: Radio City Music Hall\, The Kodak Theater\, UCB in LA\, Second City-Hollywood and iO West and has been featured on “The Today Show\,” “Live with Regis and Kelly\,” and “The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.” \nSince moving back to Hawaii in 2012\, Kimee founded and is the “Head Sillypino” of  improvhi a company and website dedicated to sketch and improv comedy in Hawaii. \nIn March 2015\, she created and produced the first ever Hawaii Sketch Comedy Festival at the Honolulu Museum of Art’s Doris Duke Theater. \nA lifetime student of the legendary Ronald E. Bright\, Kimee made her directorial debut with the Hawai’i Premiere of “Mamma Mia” at the historical Diamond Head Theatre in Honolulu. The show was a hit with Hawaii audiences and was sold out for the entire run and extension.

DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE WORKSHOP: Individual talent makes a scene good\, but working as a team makes a scene great. In this workshop we will explore what it takes to be a true ensemble member. We will practice techniques of both verbal and non-verbal collaboration\, staying in-synch with your scene partner\, playing off each other’s strengths\, and delivering a performance that is larger than the sum of its parts. At least part of the class will focus on working as an ensemble to create strong environments.\nThis workshop is great for those of you who are familiar with the foundational elements of improvisation and want to take your improv skills to the next level. If you’re considering starting\, or have already started\, your own troupe\, then this is the perfect class for you (however this is not a prerequisite)  \nINSTRUCTORS BIO:\nRish Sanghvi has been studying\, performing and teaching improvisation in the San Francisco Bay Area since 2007. In that time he has brought innovative and culturally diverse formats to the stage including improvised Bollywood\, and improvised kung-fu. She has directed over 100 original productions with Leela\, is the Founder/Executive Producer of Femprovisor Fest and serves as a Producer/Board Member for The San Francisco Improv Festival. She is also a marriage and family therapist\, drama therapist\, and self revelatory theatre director who continues to teach the therapeutic benefits of improvisation. This usually waists time\, resulting in the audience watching the improvisers figure out what the scene is about. If we start in the middle of the scene and we are already in action than the scene gets a rolling start. Through exercises and drills this workshopexplores the first moments of a scene\, which are crucial. Through creation and acceptance\, starting in the middle\, and checking in with our partner we have the opportunity to create scene starts as explosive as a Michael Bay film. Learn to create with conviction\, yes and all the glory your partners serve up\, and launch into action from the beginning. \nINTRUCTORS BIO: Marcus Sams is a working actor / teaching artist in the Bay Area. In the Improv World\, Sams performs regularly with Leela’s Armando Company. “Blair N’ Sams” and in “Shade of Grey” who will be performing at this year’s Improvaganza. DESCRIPTION:May The 4th Be With You \nAs a part of “The May The Fourth Be With You International Star Wars Fan Day” On The Spot Improv is hosting 2 readings of William Shakespeare’s The Jedi Doth return. On Saturday May 2 at 7:30pm and Sunday May 3 at 2:00 pm at the ARTS at Marks Garage. A group of eight actors will perform a dramatic stage reading along with shadow puppets.  \nThis is an interactive show where the audience will join the cast in providing sound effect as well as singing the musical score. Audience members are encouraged to dress in cosplay\, bring their light sabers\, and Nerf dart guns\, to be a part of the battle.  After the show on Saturday\, stick around for a Star wars theme Party.
