DESCRIPTION:Every performer\, old or new\, makes mistakes. Part of the problem is in knowing how to treat a mistake. Another part is being intimidated by the possibility of a mistake and performers who never seem to make them. This workshop is about how to change a mistake into a gift and how to be a stronger improviser/ actor/ comedian. \nThis workshop is directed by Actor and Improviser Kyle Isao Inouye\, an improviser and actor with over 10 years of improv performance experience at IO West\, Upright Citizens Brigade and Second City LA. Isao has also been seen on CBS’ Everybody Loves Raymond\, NBC’s Will and Grace\, the 2011 viral short “George Lucas Strikes Back”\, and the upcoming motion picture\, Martial Science. \nThis workshop will be very active. Wear comfortable\, moveable clothing. We will be playing games and exercises that will require you to move around. This is NOT a lecture\, where you will sit around\, and fall asleep\, bored out of your brains. DESCRIPTION:Mr. Aaron Presents is excited to have New Yorker improviser extraordinaire Mike Brown visit the the Hawaii Improv Community to teach a two-day workshop on Solo Improvisation! Brown performed his Solo Improv Extravaganza form at the Improvaganza 2012 Hawaii Festival of Improvisation. \nSolo Improv: Playing with Yourself \nDescription \nSolo improv is really all about learning how to play with others. When you are solely responsible for creating everything on stage\, you begin to appreciate decisions made by your scene partner when performing in a traditional team.\nImprovising by yourself is not a new concept and it doesn’t teach you new principles\, but it does make you remember the ones you often forget about on stage.Things you will re-learn in this workshop:\n-Saying ‘Yes’ to yourself.\nWe often concentrate on saying ‘yes’ to our scene partners and forget to say ‘yes’ to ourselves. The power of saying ‘Yes’ to yourself is liberating and refreshing.\n-Silence is golden.\nAs scary as silence can sometimes be\, it is a tool for you to use in your scene work. Know the difference between doing nothing and having nothing to do.\n-Physicality\, movement\, and object work.\nThere is no solo improv without being active on stage. Because\, lets be honest\, who wants to see a person sitting in a chair having a conversation with them self?\n-Knock\, knock. Who’s there? It’s me!\nLearn how to create multiple personalities on stage that the audience can also see and hear and how to manage them. It’s actually easier than you might think!Bio\nMike began his comedy career in 2005 as a Philadelphia Phillies “Phanstormer\,” performing on-field sketches for the crowd. He founded The Mike Brown Solo Improv Extravaganza\, co-founded Gods Little Atheist\, and performs with New Jersey indie team Howdy Stranger. Previous improv teams include Trapper John\, Robot Junkie\, and Ha-Prov.\nHe studied at The PIT and The Magnet Theater in NYC\, and has taught improv at The University of Oxford\, John Jay College\, and guest lectured at The Living Room Lecture Series at Lincoln Square. DESCRIPTION:Mr Aaron’s Youth Improv Learning Experience players take the stage for the first time to join members of IYFI\, Th!nk Fast\, and Sucker Punch in a comedy showcase! The improv groups join forces for a night of laughter and intrigue\, chuckles and chaos\, creating worlds and the characters that inhabit them\, with the assistance of the newest improvisers in Hawaii. Come watch as the students showcase what they have learned in the last 8 weeks\, the students then join forces in the second half with Chris Riel\, Shawn Thompson\, Jasmine Fernandez and Aaron Pughes! Bring a sense of humor and be prepared to give suggestions for this once in a lifetime show! \nLight refreshments provided\, you can also bring your own food and drinks. \nWard’s Rafters is on Maunaloa between 15th and 16th Ave in Kaimuki. Doors open at 6pm and seating is strictly first come\, first serve. Carpooling is HIGHLY recommended because parking is a pain in that area.
