DESCRIPTION:LAUGHTRACK THEATER COMPANY CELEBRATES GRADUATION OF NEWEST ADVANCED CLASS WITH ARTS DISTRICT IMPROV COMEDY SHOW SAT JULY 26Chinatown\, HONOLULU – After many months of intensive study and a lot of laughs\, Laughtrack Theater Company’s latest batch of graduates will make their debut as the improv group\, Requisite Octopus. In addition to completing the company’s three-level curriculum\, this group of performers was also fortunate to study with professional improvisers from Second City Chicago in a series of recent workshops. \nAll graduates of the Laughtrack Theater Company program are offered the chance to perform publicly in a professionally produced comedy show upon completion. Founded by Kim Potter and Shannon Winpenny in 2008\, Laughtrack has since graduated over a dozen advanced classes. Winpenny is a veteran of the Chicago improv community\, having spent ten years there performing with prestigious improv houses such as iO (formerly Improv Olympic) and Second City. \nVeteran improv groups Leg Full of Soup and Aftermath with Special Guest will also be performing for the three-part show featuring new group Requisite Octopus. The show will take place Saturday\, July 26 at 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 7 p.m.) at Laughtrack at The Creative\, 1116 Smith Street. Spanning a range of emotions from downright mad to wily and smart this improv troupe brings a diverse group of relatively analytical individuals together on stage. The five arms of this group came together at laughtrack theater. Sitting looking at each other on that first day we all said shoot (probably didn’t say something so clean) what do we have in common? Then it became clear – we are all hung up on detail and analysis! Wow that does not sound funny – but maybe we are! The base of our interaction is influenced by our backgrounds in science\, finance\, and cartography and our limited experiences in theater and comedy. We take ourselves very seriously as we expect you will.

Team members have been hard at work since last September learning the art of “long form” improvisational theater\, as developed by Del Close. \nAs an improv team they learned how to create characters and build relationships\, how to work completely without a script\, explore spontaneity\, and most importantly learn how to trust their instincts. \n“I have thoroughly enjoyed learning the art of improv and becoming part of a performing improv troop\,” said team member Maggie Embick. “Over the last six months I have learned how to explore improv\, how to create a totally unscripted theatrical performance and most importantly trust my fellow team members.” \nLeg Full of Soup team members include John Cummings III\, Trevor Danielson\, Maggie Embick\, Joseph Lewis\, Tom McNamara and Anthony “Hawk” Silano. \nLeg Full of Soup invites you to join them for an entertaining evening of improvised theater!

DESCRIPTION:Laughtrack Theater Company welcomes home from Chicago our prize alum\, our improv pride and joy\, our golden boy turned improviser badass for a two-day workshop and post-Thanksgiving show that is open to all LTC students and graduates. \nWorkshop participants can sign up for one or both days in advance of the workshop\, scheduled for November 23 and 24. Space is limited for each class and pre-registration is required. Enrollment is on a first-come\, first-served basis. \nHanada\, a local boy from Mililani turned Chicago transplant\, has been improvising — and loving it — since 2007. He has been teaching the art of improvisation since 2010\, and is responsible for implanting the imrov bug in people all across this universe (seriously). He is currently the Development Director for Chicago Improv Productions and is performing in their Education Outreach program and touring company\, while coaching the improv troupe\, The Rebound. \nWORKSHOP #1 – Date: November 23 (Saturday) \nBreaking Harold \nThis workshop will challenge students to take those Harold training wheels off! \nIn Breaking Harold students will probe even deeper into the Harold form by focusing on organic openings\, group commitment and expanding the beats of a scene. This workshop will challenge students to be inspired by different thematic choices.\n \nTime: 12pm-3pm (3 hour workshop)\nCost: $25 \nWORKSHOP #2 – Date: November 24 (Sunday) \nIt’s Scene Work\, Watson \nNaming someone ‘Dad’ in a scene does not mean you have created a relationship that the audience cares about. We’ve all been there\, seen that! Right? \nIn this workshop\, students will take an in-depth exploration of scene work. They will utilize the knowledge that they have as   individuals to find ways to make scenes more dynamic.\n \nTime: 12pm-3pm (3 hour workshop)\nCost: $25 \nLocation: Laughtrack Theater Co.\, at the Creative – 1116 Smith Street\, Chinatown \nPrerequisites: know the basics of improv and scene work\, or approval of LTC’s artistic director.

DESCRIPTION:We’re Baaaaack….Laughtrack Theater Company (LTC)\, Hawaii’s premiere improvisational comedy theater company\, is breaking in its new space with its first show this year. The show will feature the most recent graduates of Laughtrack Theater’s training center in their debut improv performance and will also showcase veteran local improv talent including Laughtrack Theater co-founder and artistic director Shannon Winpenny\, who has been hailed as the Islands’ leading improviser with more than 10 years of training at Chicago’s famed Second City. \nThe show\, which will be held Tuesday\, May 21 at 7:30 p.m. at 1116 Smith Street\, will also be LTC member Scott Hanada’s last show in the Islands before he leaves to further his improv training at Chicago’s Second City.
