SUMMARY:Sketch Comedy Writing 101: The Basics
DESCRIPTION:This course is an introduction to the philosophy on sketch comedy\, specifically using “the game” to write short comedic scenes. Each week students will engage in writing exercises that will explore different sketch formats. Students will be exposed to different methods for turning funny ideas into even funnier written sketches. Students will leave the class with an understanding of popular sketch formats and a portfolio of writing.\n \nNo prior sketch writing experience is necessary — the only requirement for this class is a desire to write and learn. Less like a class and more like a practice group\, our study hall will give you a good amount of rep time that will leave you refreshed and ready! \nSessions may include: Exploring new openings\, building strong initiations\, short form games\, scene work\, object work and more! Each session is TOTALLY different depending on the instructor and what they’d like to cover that night. \nYou’ve got the skills\, now let’s put them to work!! \nPrerequisite: Students must have completed a 101 session with Improv Hawaii within the last 2 years. \nCost: $15 Time: 7:00PM – 8:00PM \nAll Study Halls will happen online via Zoom.\nA link and password will be emailed within 45 minutes of the class start time.\nParticipants should have reliable internet as well as a comfortable and quiet space to play during class. \nInstructors may change each session. \n
