Whether you’re an actor\, lawyer\, comedian\, entrepreneur\, dog trainer\, or whatever improv teaches you to think on your feet and allows you to adapt to unexpected events. Improv is all about reacting\, staying focused and being in the moment. This workshop will introduce to the wonderful world of improvisation. Absolutely no experience required…and “NON-PERFORMERS” ARE VERY WELCOME! Zero Fear…ALL FUN! You will play and learn in a safe\, positive and supportive environment. You’ll loosen up and discover that super quick person that’s living inside your heart. All students will walk away with more confidence in themselves and will be ready to face whatever the world throws at them! \nClasses will be taught by local actor Kimee Balmilero (Original Broadway Cast of Mamma Mia\, Hi-5\, Miss Saigon). Kimee has performed sketch and improv in LA in such venues as UCB\, iO West and Second City. She’s received most of her improv training from UCB in LA and continues to take classes in LA with pro improvisers Suzi Barrett\, Eugene Cordero\, Eliza Skinner and Jim Woods. That’s the premise—in reality\, veteran improvisers R. Kevin Garcia Doyle and Sean T.C. O’Malley improvise all the lyrics of Oil’s ‘classic hits’ backed by stellar musicians Eric Folk on drums and Brian X on bass. \nIt’s like a concert. It’s like an improv comedy show. It’s like nothing else you’ve ever seen. \nOIL will perform a 90-minute set of improvised rock songs with all the trappings. They’ve got great music. They’ve got attitude.\nThey’ve got a unique show: unlike most improv shows\, you won’t see the performers break character or ask for suggestions with an Emcee persona. The show uses Invisible Improv\, with song title “suggestions” flowing naturally from the interactions between superstar rockers and you\, their superfans. \nOIL IN THE ALLEY has improvised over 200 songs with shows at LaughTrack Theatre\, Mark’s Garage\, at the Improvaganza Festival of Improv\, at the O’ahu Fringe Festival\, and on the Mainstage at the Hawaii Book and Music Festival. Kevin Garcia Doyle (vocals) has been improvising in Hawaii for over twenty years. He was a founding member of Loose Screws and of the Hawaii Shakespeare Festival\, and has written\, directed and acted in shows for University of Hawaii at Mānoa\, Kumu Kahua\, Mānoa Valley Theater\, All The World’s A Stage and the Honolulu Theater for Youth. Doyle was the director of Loose Screws’ nationally acclaimed “Screwbuki\,” which toured to Chicago\, Los Angeles and Seattle. Professionally\, he is the director of the School of the Arts at Mid-Pacific Institute. \nSean T.C. O’Malley (vocals\, electric guitar) is a Philadelphia-born improviser\, musician\, and playwright who has lived in Honolulu for twenty years. During his 17-year stint as a founding member of improv group Loose Screws\, he directed an improvised full-length musical\, “Loose Screws Sing!?!” and was featured on shamisen in the nationally acclaimed improvised Kabuki\, “Screwbuki.” He’s composed musical scores for theatrical works as diverse as Euripedes’ The Trojan Women and Lee Cataluna’s Ulua: The Musical. His theatrical scripts have been performed at Kumu Kahua Theatre (Island Skin Songs\, To the Last Hawaiian Soldier\, and the Po’okela-award winning Wilcox’s Shot)\, the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa (Politicians\, Elections\, and Other Obscenities) and Honolulu Theatre for Youth. \nEric Folk (drums) plays skins for The Kaimana Band\, The Eric Lee Band\, and Honolulu crowd favorite Family Dinner. \nBri X (bass) has played rock’n’roll since the 80s with too many bands you’ve never heard of. \nSean and R. have been improvising together since 1993. Eric and Sean played together in a country band called “The Sleepin’ Dogs” in 2000. DESCRIPTION:Mr Aaron’s Youth Improv Learning Experience players take the stage for the first time to join members of IYFI\, Th!nk Fast\, and Sucker Punch in a comedy showcase! The improv groups join forces for a night of laughter and intrigue\, chuckles and chaos\, creating worlds and the characters that inhabit them\, with the assistance of the newest improvisers in Hawaii. Come watch as the students showcase what they have learned in the last 8 weeks\, the students then join forces in the second half with Chris Riel\, Shawn Thompson\, Jasmine Fernandez and Aaron Pughes! Bring a sense of humor and be prepared to give suggestions for this once in a lifetime show! \nLight refreshments provided\, you can also bring your own food and drinks. \nWard’s Rafters is on Maunaloa between 15th and 16th Ave in Kaimuki. Doors open at 6pm and seating is strictly first come\, first serve. Carpooling is HIGHLY recommended because parking is a pain in that area.
