DESCRIPTION:The Cinema Game is Jean Louis Barreault’s exercise that teaches you everything you need to know about acting (except voice). Learn to develop complementary characters\, strong needs\, powerful transitions\, subtlety\, physical awareness\, team work and create wonderful stories all in silence. 3 strangers enter a cinema with no direct communication they gradually become aware of each other and begin to interact changing each others lives dramatically. It is a simple exercise\, it’s just not easy! \nWade Jackson is New Zealand’s leading improv teacher. He has spent the last 20 years ‘mastering’ The Cinema Game and is nowhere near it. He is however able to show others the path to one of the most demanding acting exercises of all time. \nWade has a Post Graduate Diploma in Drama (University of Auckland) and has taught this workshop in Belgium\, at the Chicago Improv Festival (USA) and throughout New Zealand.

DESCRIPTION:Improv builds important everyday skills.  If you want to get faster on your toes\, interact better with others\, progress as a performer\, or just make new friends\, improv training can help you build the skills you need.  More and more businesses are using improv training to enhance their employees’ communication and teamwork skills and build self-confidence. Performers of all arts as well\, from actors to comedians and more\, find improv classes helpful to keep their skills sharp in between shows and receive performance level notes from the instructor.  \n“All the world’s a stage and most of us are desperately unrehearsed.”\n― Seán O’Casey \nWe all have our stage.  Scripted and improvised actors and stand-up comedians have an actual stage.  Some of us play on the stage of everyday life\, trying to speak and behave like “normal” human beings.  Stagecraft is the technical skills of acting: blocking\, vocals\, physicality.  These are the skills that help keep an audience engaged so they will listen to what you’re saying. \nAbout the Program\nDecember’s Improv Skills Drop-In improv classes are focused on training your stagecraft skills to be a more dynamic performer and speaker.  Topics to be covered include: physicality\, space work\, vocals\, and theatricality. \nAbout the Instructor\nDrew McCalmon has over 15 years improv and theater performance experience. He received his improvisational training in Florida from the renowned SAK Comedy Lab in Orlando where he was a show host as well as well as a member of Generation ‘S’. Drew is also an alumni member of Absent Minded Improv in Orlando and Comedy Buffet in Winter Haven. Since moving to Hawaii in 2012 Drew has become an active member in the improv community and joined Think Fast soon after arriving. DESCRIPTION:Sketch writers! Interested in submitting for next year’s Hawaii Sketch Comedy Festival? Or write your own sketch show? Have sketches you like but not sure if they work? Join us in the writer’s room! \nWe will go through your sketches with a table read\, find a game that best fits your idea\, and then as a group pitch jokes for it as you would in a writers room. We will then spend the remainder of the class working on pitching sketch ideas and finding either a solid game for you to follow\, or form a basic outline for your sketch. \nPlease bring with you:\nNotebook and pen to take notes.\nOne sketch and at least four copies to read with the class. (If your sketch has a lot of characters maybe consider bringing an extra copy)\nPitches for sketch ideas! \nAbout the Instructor:\nAnn Maddox has performed at the UCB Theater in Los Angeles since 2005\, in several sketch shows such as Baby Hungry\, Charlyne Yi Show\, UCB presents\, Other people’s stuff\, Make That Sandwich! and most recently\, the one act sketch play Talking Is Hard\, which just finished it’s year long run at UCB.\nShe has also performed improv on the Harold team Lincoln’s Bedroom and wrote sketch comedy for Maude Teams Nice Kitchen and Hot Mess. In 2011 she was a cast member of the annual CBS Diversity Showcase\, featured as a performer and writer.  She has written and performed her own UCB shows Machu Picchu and Battle of the Funny Bands with her music/sketch band Machu Picchu. They have appeared in stand up and variety shows such as Comedy Death Ray\, Tomorrow Show\, Garage Comedy and the Las Vegas Comedy Festival.\nAnn Maddox has been in several commercials playing either a weird coworker and/or a stoner type. You may have seen Ann in The Office as a pregnant telemarketer\, an artsy hipster in Two Broke Girls\, a bubbly game show host on Fuel TV’s Stupid Face\,eating bird poo on Web Soup\, and a Japanese panda suited criminal in Todd Rohal’s Catechism Cataclysm (currently on Netflix)! DESCRIPTION:Get ready to laugh with Think Fast and friends! \nChinatown’s improv team Think Fast will be hosting and performing a night of comedic good times at the “Improv Brew Haha”!  Audience members will be treated to a show completely made-up and inspired by suggestions they give! Think Fast Improv welcomes Special Guest Fernando Pacheco\, comedian and host of “The Walk of Shame” (ALT 105.9) for a night of unscripted comedy inspired by his stand up comedy and life stories. \nLast Saturdays of each month\, Think Fast welcomes all improvisers to pop in before the show and create all new teams that very night!  Throughout the night\, Think Fast will also perform their favorite short form games\, as well as their stylized long form piece for the evening. \nDoors open at 7:30pm and the show begins at 8pm.  There will be one 10 minute intermission and a bar with a variety of beverages available. \nPARKING: Chinatown Municipal Parking ($3) on Smith/Nimitz and River/Nimitz
