DESCRIPTION:About the Workshop… \nDay One: Sketch Writing In this class you will learn how to write a sketch from start to finish using the Upright Citizens Brigade “game of the scene” structure.  You can bring in premises that we will flush out.  Bring in already written sketches and we will simulate a real writers room to punch it up.  How to write topical sketches\, character sketches and more.  We will also spend time focusing on how to hone your comedic voice through sketch.  \nDay Two: Sketch Performing In this class we will learn how to better perform sketch comedy.  We will use already existing sketches to learn the best way to get the most laughs.  Using the “game of the scene” we will hone in on what is funny about the scene and how can we maximize it.  We will then focus on creating characters and how to use those characters in a showcase.  Bring in exiting characters and learn tricks to make them stand out.   \nAbout the Instructor… \nHolly is from Toronto\, Canada.  While performing comedy there\, she won a Canadian Comedy Award for best sketch troupe\, as a member of The Sketchersons.  She joined the Second City Touring Company and also won MTV’s Yo Mamma: Canada. In 2008\, she attended The Sundance Film Festival\, where her film The Funeral was an official selection.  She has appeared on IFC’s Comedy Bang Bang and The Birthday Boys. \nHolly can now be seen performing at Upright Citizens Brigade Los Angeles.  Last year she was asked to take over hosting duties of UCBTLA longest running weekly show “Not Too Shabby” hosting with Alana Johnston.  She has appeared in countless Funny Or Die videos and is now appearing on “The UCB Show” on Sesso with Alana.  This year Vulture named their sketch one of the best of 2016 check it out here: http://www.vulture.com/2016/07/best-comedy-sketches-of-2016-so-far.html \nClass Deets… \nLevel: Open to all levels. Kimee is also the creator and producer of the first ever Hawaii Sketch Comedy Festival.\n\n\nKimee made her directorial debut with the Hawaii Premiere of “Mamma Mia” at the historial Diamond Head Theatre.\n\n\n\nAbout The Instructor: Sarah Halford is a Hawaii-born artist who has been acting professionally in Los Angeles for the last few years. She holds her Masters in Acting from one of the top grad schools in the country\, UC San Diego. While in Los Angeles\, she starred as Heather Chandler in the world premiere of Heathers: The Musical. Other professional TV and Film Credits include: “Anger Management\,” “Cristela\,” “Road Hard\,” with comedian Adam Carolla\, and numerous national commercials. Sarah has had experiences testing for top network pilots\, and circulating with the most prominent casting directors in Los Angeles and New York. DESCRIPTION:This intermediate/advanced level class allows students to practice the essentials of long-form improv comedy. Students will learn to build scenes by “yes\, and”-ing\, activate their listening\, support their scene partners and to play in the reality to create fun and comedic improvised scenes. Students will play and learn in a safe\, non-judgmental environment. Students will have the opportunity to perform in an improv show at the end of the session. Some improv experience is suggested. Limited Space. \nClass Dates (UPDATED): \nMay 15\, 22\, 29 (No class on 5/1 and 5/8) \nJune 5\, 12\, 19\, 26 \nJuly 10 \nSorry\, there are no drop ins for this class. \nAbout the instructor: \nHawaii born actor Kimee Balmilero has been performing professionally since 1994 thanks to her first paying gig as “Woody Woodpecker” at an Earth Day Fair.  Other professional credits include: The 3X Emmy Nominated series “Hi-5\,” the Original Broadway Cast of “Mamma Mia\,” “Miss Saigon\,” and most recently\, the recurring role of Dr. Noelani Cunha on “Hawaii Five-0.” While working in NYC and LA for 15+ years\, she studied improv & sketch comedy at the famed Uprights Citizens Brigade Theatre in Hollywood. \nKimee has performed at such venues as: Radio City Music Hall\, The Kodak Theater\, UCB in LA\, Second City-Hollywood and iO West and has been featured on “The Today Show\,” “Live with Regis and Kelly\,” and “The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.” \nSince moving back to Hawaii in 2012\, Kimee founded and is the “Head Sillypino” of  improvhi a company and website dedicated to sketch and improv comedy in Hawaii. \nIn March 2015\, she created and produced the first ever Hawaii Sketch Comedy Festival at the Honolulu Museum of Art’s Doris Duke Theater. \nA lifetime student of the legendary Ronald E. Bright\, Kimee made her directorial debut with the Hawai’i Premiere of “Mamma Mia” at the historical Diamond Head Theatre in Honolulu. The show was a hit with Hawaii audiences and was sold out for the entire run and extension.
