DESCRIPTION:For those who have some experience “On The Spot “offers their Level 3: Narrative / Long Form Improv Class. in this class students will learn how to improvise a full length unscripted play. They will also learn how to tell compelling and complex stories with dynamic and colorful characters. DESCRIPTION:On The Spot Improv will present “The 3rd Annual Project Genre Showcase on Saturday January 5 at the Arts at Marks Garage at 8:00pm. Project Genre is a program developed by On The Spot Improv to create new improvised shows inspired by researching genres of movies\, theater\, television\, and literary styles. This year Project Genre Showcase will feature two improvised shows based on movie styles. \nThe first is the world premiere of Dead Poets Club. A funny and poignant look at such coming of age dramas as “Dead Poets Society\, History Boys”\, and “Finding Forester.” The Dead Poets Club explores all the angst of young people struggling to find themselves. And with the guidance of their mentor\, an out of the box thinking maverick\, they might find out who they really are inside. The cast of Dead Poets Club is encouraging audience members to bring in original works of poetry and art to use in their improvisation. \nNext “On The Spot” will present their homage to classic film noirs of the 1940’s and 1950’s with “The Slow Fall Down.” The show is an improvised anthology of stories inspired by such classic movies like Double Indemnity\, Detour\, D.O.A\, Lady from Shanghai\, and The Maltese Falcon. On The Spot will also be drawing inspiration from the biggest stars of the era using all the charm of Humphrey Bogart\, The bravado of Edward G Robinson\, and the Sex Appeal of Lauren Bacall\, The Slow Fall Down is sure to entertain those familiar and unfamiliar with the genre. \n“The 3rd Annual Project Genre Showcase” starts at 8:00pm on January 5th at the Arts at Marks Garage. Tickets are $15 general and $10 for students w/ ID and are available at the door one hour before show time. DESCRIPTION:Every performer\, old or new\, makes mistakes. Part of the problem is in knowing how to treat a mistake. Another part is being intimidated by the possibility of a mistake and performers who never seem to make them. This workshop is about how to change a mistake into a gift and how to be a stronger improviser/ actor/ comedian. \nThis workshop is directed by Actor and Improviser Kyle Isao Inouye\, an improviser and actor with over 10 years of improv performance experience at IO West\, Upright Citizens Brigade and Second City LA. Isao has also been seen on CBS’ Everybody Loves Raymond\, NBC’s Will and Grace\, the 2011 viral short “George Lucas Strikes Back”\, and the upcoming motion picture\, Martial Science. \nThis workshop will be very active. Wear comfortable\, moveable clothing. We will be playing games and exercises that will require you to move around. This is NOT a lecture\, where you will sit around\, and fall asleep\, bored out of your brains. DESCRIPTION:What just happened?! You did. Solo Improv is something that we do everyday without realizing it. Ever talk to yourself in the bathroom? Surrrrrrrrrrrrrre you don’t. *wink* We all do. It’s what connects us as human beings. All of our quirks\, all of our insecurities….these are things that we can bring to the stage. And whether you are on stage performing with an ensemble or by yourself\, it’s all about finding something interesting to do with the time that has been giving to you. (I partially stole that line from Gandalf). \nDescription\n“Alright nerds. We’re going to go with…” -Beca\, Pitch Perfect \nThis round will pick up from where the last one left off. Each class participant will have the opportunity to try out different styles and forms of Solo Improv. These forms include\, but are not limited to: The Monoscene\, The Interview\, The Physical Enviornment\, and an original form created specifically for Solo Improv: The Beast.\nIn addition\, each class participant will finish off the class by choosing a form to their liking and performing a 7-10 min Solo Improv set in front of the class. \nClass size: maximum of 12\nPrerequisite: intermediate experience with improv \nThings you will re-learn in this workshop:\n-Saying ‘Yes’ to yourself.\nWe often concentrate on saying ‘yes’ to our scene partners and forget to say ‘yes’ to ourselves. The power of saying ‘Yes’ to yourself is liberating and refreshing.\n-Silence is golden.\nAs scary as silence can sometimes be\, it is a tool for you to use in your scene work. Know the difference between doing nothing and having nothing to do.\n-Physicality\, movement\, and object work.\nThere is no solo improv without being active on stage. Because\, lets be honest\, who wants to see a person sitting in a chair having a conversation with them self?\n-Knock\, knock. Who’s there? It’s me!\nLearn how to create multiple personalities on stage that the audience can also see and hear and how to manage them. It’s actually easier than you might think! \nBio\nMike began his comedy career in 2005 as a Philadelphia Phillies “Phanstormer\,” performing on-field sketches for the crowd. He founded The Mike Brown Solo Improv Extravaganza\, co-founded Gods Little Atheist\, and performs with New Jersey indie team Howdy Stranger. Previous improv teams include Trapper John\, Robot Junkie\, and Ha-Prov.\nHe studied at The PIT and The Magnet Theater in NYC\, and has taught improv at The University of Oxford\, John Jay College\, and guest lectured at The Living Room Lecture Series at Lincoln Square. DESCRIPTION:Students ages 8-17 will meet once a week to socialize with their teammates and develop as unique and creative people using the performing art of Improvisation. Through improvisation\, students will learn essential social\, acting\, and performance skills together with their fellow teammates. Open and honest communication\, developing trust in others\, supporting teammates\, listening\, focusing\, and positive agreement are key skills essential to life as well as in the art of Improvisation. These skills are taught while having fun\, students will warm-up with each other\, playing games and exercises that have been built using the key skills as a foundation and have been used to train famous improvisers and actors for over 50 years. All of these exercises are done alongside their peers. At the end of the each 6-week session students will perform a showcase for their family and friends!
