DESCRIPTION:Explore spontaneity and creativity in a stimulating\, fun and supportive environment with games\, stage skills\, body awareness and laughter. In this fun and friendly class you don`t need any drama\, acting\, comedy or improv experience. You don`t even have to be funny! Amy teaches you the basics and shows you how you can improvise your way to success. Build confidence and improve your communication skills while learning to “be in the moment.” \nAmy Hill`s television credits include Grey`s Anatomy\, The Office\, Desperate Housewives\, Friends and Seinfeld. She might best be remembered for her groundbreaking role as\n“grandma” in All American Girl with Margaret Cho. She co-starred with Mike Myers in Cat in the Hat and with Adam Sandler in Fifty First Dates. Amy`s voice work includes King of the Hill\, Lilo & Stitch\, Jackie Chan Adventures\, American Dad as well as on Nickelodeon`s animated series Kung Fu Panda. She recently recurred in acclaimed HBO series\, Enlightened with Laura Dern. Having appeared onstage from Seattle Rep to Berkeley Rep to Lincoln Center`s Twelfth Night in addition to numerous local stages\, she most recently returned to directing with Nisei Widows Club at East West Players. \nAlong with acting\, directing\, writing and improvising over the last 35 years\, she has always found teaching to be profoundly rewarding. Amy taught improvisation\, scene study and script analysis for over 6 years through the Asian American Theater Company in San Francisco\, creative movement for K through 12th grade in the San Francisco School District\, acting\, improvisation and writing at a East West Players in Los Angeles\, and Asian American Performance for the Asian Studies Dept. at UCLA. While performing her solo shows across the country and internationally\, she has held symposiums and workshops for solo performance and acting.

DESCRIPTION:The ART OF ALLOWING IMPROV WORKSHOP is for the ensemble actor and improvisor who desires to cultivate the ability to flawlessly and spontaneously create magic on stage and in life. “IT” comes from a place of joy and connection to one’s source intuition\, and is attained by giving yourself to the art form through LISTENING rather than thinking\, from ALLOWING rather than forcing\, from being FULLY PRESENT in the moment and FOCUSING on CONNECTION with your partner and your environment. You will understand why making your partner look good makes you in turn look twice as good and makes the work flow. Ultimately\, you will understand that this is how ensemble is created.  \nThis workshop will focus on scene work. You will learn to develop tools to let scenes emerge organically\, including: \ncultivating a heightened sense of listening\ncultivating a heightened sense of awareness of the scene around you\, i.e. environment\, textures\, emotions\, body languages\, sounds\, etc.\nlearning the game within the scene\nmaking your partner look good\nfinding the joy in the exploration\ngetting out of your own way to allow creativity to flow\nunderstanding that the true magic lies in the synchronicity of you\, your partner and the audience all discovering a point of focus at the same time  \nABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:\nMark Beltzman has been acting\, writing and directing since 1981. It is Hawaii’s only international festival dedicated to Improv comedy and improvised theatre. Improvisers from all over the world come to Honolulu for a weekend of improv performances\, workshops\, and events. In past years we’ve welcomed improvisers from Aiea\, Austin\, Atlanta\, Chicago\, Dallas\, Honolulu\, Kailua-Kona\, Los Angeles\, Minneapolis\, New York\, Phoenix\, San Diego\, San Francisco\, Seattle\, and as far away as Melbourne Australia\, Auckland New Zealand\, Turin Italy\, Rio De Janerio Brazil\, Paris France\, Stockholm Sweden and Tokyo Japan.\n\nThe festival strives to cultivate Hawaii’s local improv community by showcasing local and mainland improvisers while providing opportunities for them to network with each other. DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE WORKSHOP: Quite often we find that our improv scenes begin at the beginning. This usually waists time\, resulting in the audience watching the improvisers figure out what the scene is about. If we start in the middle of the scene and we are already in action than the scene gets a rolling start. Through exercises and drills this workshopexplores the first moments of a scene\, which are crucial. Through creation and acceptance\, starting in the middle\, and checking in with our partner we have the opportunity to create scene starts as explosive as a Michael Bay film. Learn to create with conviction\, yes and all the glory your partners serve up\, and launch into action from the beginning. \nINTRUCTORS BIO: Marcus Sams is a working actor / teaching artist in the Bay Area. In the Improv World\, Sams performs regularly with Leela’s Armando Company. “Blair N’ Sams” and in “Shade of Grey” who will be performing at this year’s Improvaganza. SUMMARY:Improvaganza 2015 Workshops: Ensemble Approach to Improvisation
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE WORKSHOP: Individual talent makes a scene good\, but working as a team makes a scene great. In this workshop we will explore what it takes to be a true ensemble member. We will practice techniques of both verbal and non-verbal collaboration\, staying in-synch with your scene partner\, playing off each other’s strengths\, and delivering a performance that is larger than the sum of its parts. At least part of the class will focus on working as an ensemble to create strong environments.\nThis workshop is great for those of you who are familiar with the foundational elements of improvisation and want to take your improv skills to the next level. If you’re considering starting\, or have already started\, your own troupe\, then this is the perfect class for you (however this is not a prerequisite)  \nINSTRUCTORS BIO:\nRish Sanghvi has been studying\, performing and teaching improvisation in the San Francisco Bay Area since 2007. In that time he has brought innovative and culturally diverse formats to the stage including improvised Bollywood\, and improvised kung-fu. DESCRIPTION:“The most important thing in communication is hearing what isn’t being said. The art of reading between the lines is a life long quest of the wise.”\n― Shannon L. Alder  \n \nCommunicating toward an unknown common goal is the foundation of any scene and relationship. This month learn to communicate with your partners\, in other words listening and giving information\, and teamwork. \nOctober’s Improv Drop-In improv skills classes are focused on making a better communicator. \nWHERE: HiFi COOP\, Ward Warehouse\, 1050 Ala Moana Blvd\, STE 2580 Honolulu\, Hawaii 96813\nWHEN: Every Tuesday in October\nTIMES: 7:30pm\nTICKETS: $10/class or $35 for the month\nClasses start promptly at 7:30 every Tuesday. Classes run until 9:30. \nOur Improv Skills are every Tuesday and open to everyone regardless of improv experience level.  If you’ve never improvised before\, that’s great!  Our instructors are gentle and have plenty of experience to share. \nFor questions or more information on classes: e-mail us info[at]thinkfastimprov.com or call Aaron at (808) 728-7146. \nAbout The Instructor \n \nMr Aaron has hosted over 300 events and created Hawaii’s longest running comedy open mic night\, Comedy Hospital\, every Thursday at Station Bar and Lounge.  He has performed at the Oahu Fringe Festival in 2015 and made two appearances at Improvaganza.  Aaron studied improv and sketch comedy writing with Second City’s Jeff Griggs and Jonathan Pitts and sponsored workshops led by Mike Brown of the New York City People’s Improv Theater\, Second City Hollywood performer Kyle Isao\, and Patrick Babbit of IO West.  Aaron writes and performs in Honolulu sketch comedy group\, Regards! \nAaron’s dedication to providing performers with opportunities has radically increased the size of the Hawaii comedy community over the past four years.  He is continuously launching new initiatives to raise money for his favorite charities\, St Baldricks Foundation and Child’s Play Charity\, and constantly seeks new ways to expand the performing arts community in Hawaii\, mostly through mixing different arts into one show or making pancakes. Aaron continues to teach\, host\, and perform improv at multiple venues including Station Bar and Lounge\, Ong King Art Center\, Hawaiian Brian’s\, The Studio and Hfi COOP. \nAaron is a real foodie and loves ‘P’ Foods: pancakes\, potatoes\, and probably pickles. Also\, puppets.
