DESCRIPTION:Chickprov is a Ladies’ Only Workshop taught by Emmy Award winning writer and master improv instructor\, Rachel Hamilton. No Boys Allowed. This workshop will\, of course\, begin with a lingerie-clad pillow fight\, after which\, time permitting\, we will improvise. We will play with the intention of exploring the ways in which we as women have internalized what is culturally expected of us.• What do we not allow ourselves to say? To be?• Where do we hit our heads on our own permission of how we are allowed to behave?In this workshop we will look at the limiting beliefs we as female improvisers have ingested and play with getting that nonsense out of our systems . We will emerge as bolder improvisers who play fiercely\, with more freedom and truth. \nLight “Wine” Down and Chat Time directly following the workshop… \nLocation: \nProtoHub Honolulu\n458 Keawe Street\n(Park in lot on the side of the building) \nAbout the Instructor:\nRachel Hamilton is an accomplished Improvisational Actor\, Storyteller and is widely regarded as one of the best Improv teachers working today. A former Mainstage cast member at The Second City\, Chicago\, Rachel learned her craft from and with the best\, having shared the stage with geniuses like Tina Fey\, Amy Poehler\, Rachel Dratch\, Scott Adsit\, Nia Vardalos and many more incredible artists.Rachel began teaching almost twenty years ago and she feels passionately that Improv skills are great training for both theater and for life. Her teaching style is upbeat and nurturing – she creates a safe space where everyone can feel safe and supported\, and where everyone can do their best work. Rachel designs and implements improv workshops all over the country for both actors and non-actors\, offering Improv as a tool for training in performance as well as for personal development.\nBorn in DC\, Rachel has lived\, loved and worked in all the major cities; Chicago\, LA and most recently NYC. Performers of all arts as well\, from actors to comedians and more\, find improv classes helpful to keep their skills sharp in between shows and receive performance level notes from the instructor.  \n“All the world’s a stage and most of us are desperately unrehearsed.”\n― Seán O’Casey \nWe all have our stage.  Scripted and improvised actors and stand-up comedians have an actual stage.  Some of us play on the stage of everyday life\, trying to speak and behave like “normal” human beings.  Stagecraft is the technical skills of acting: blocking\, vocals\, physicality.  These are the skills that help keep an audience engaged so they will listen to what you’re saying. \nAbout the Program\nDecember’s Improv Skills Drop-In improv classes are focused on training your stagecraft skills to be a more dynamic performer and speaker.  Topics to be covered include: physicality\, space work\, vocals\, and theatricality. \nAbout the Instructor\nDrew McCalmon has over 15 years improv and theater performance experience. He received his improvisational training in Florida from the renowned SAK Comedy Lab in Orlando where he was a show host as well as well as a member of Generation ‘S’. Drew is also an alumni member of Absent Minded Improv in Orlando and Comedy Buffet in Winter Haven. DESCRIPTION:Sketch writers! Interested in submitting for next year’s Hawaii Sketch Comedy Festival? Or write your own sketch show? Have sketches you like but not sure if they work? Join us in the writer’s room! \nWe will go through your sketches with a table read\, find a game that best fits your idea\, and then as a group pitch jokes for it as you would in a writers room. We will then spend the remainder of the class working on pitching sketch ideas and finding either a solid game for you to follow\, or form a basic outline for your sketch. \nPlease bring with you:\nNotebook and pen to take notes.\nOne sketch and at least four copies to read with the class. (If your sketch has a lot of characters maybe consider bringing an extra copy)\nPitches for sketch ideas! \nAbout the Instructor:\nAnn Maddox has performed at the UCB Theater in Los Angeles since 2005\, in several sketch shows such as Baby Hungry\, Charlyne Yi Show\, UCB presents\, Other people’s stuff\, Make That Sandwich! and most recently\, the one act sketch play Talking Is Hard\, which just finished it’s year long run at UCB.\nShe has also performed improv on the Harold team Lincoln’s Bedroom and wrote sketch comedy for Maude Teams Nice Kitchen and Hot Mess. In 2011 she was a cast member of the annual CBS Diversity Showcase\, featured as a performer and writer.  She has written and performed her own UCB shows Machu Picchu and Battle of the Funny Bands with her music/sketch band Machu Picchu. They have appeared in stand up and variety shows such as Comedy Death Ray\, Tomorrow Show\, Garage Comedy and the Las Vegas Comedy Festival.\nAnn Maddox has been in several commercials playing either a weird coworker and/or a stoner type. You may have seen Ann in The Office as a pregnant telemarketer\, an artsy hipster in Two Broke Girls\, a bubbly game show host on Fuel TV’s Stupid Face\,eating bird poo on Web Soup\, and a Japanese panda suited criminal in Todd Rohal’s Catechism Cataclysm (currently on Netflix)!  She also often appears in College Humor and Funny or Die videos.\nYou can catch her this fall on TBS in The Pete Holmes Show and on IFC with The Birthday Boys!  \n*limit 13 students\n*Unfortunately we are unable to give refunds for this workshop

DESCRIPTION:“Unity is strength… when there is teamwork and collaboration\, wonderful things can be achieved.” \nMattie Stepanek \nGood teamwork skills improves performance\, efficiency and trust within a group. Improv is a collaborative art form and teamwork is essential. There are hundreds of improv exercises and games designed to build trust\, support and group mind within an improv team. Think Fast will be covering many of these in our Improv Skills: Teamwork classes in January. \nJanuary’s Improv Skills Drop-In improv classes are focused on building your teamwork skills to be a more effective performer and person in general. Topics to be covered include: “Yes\, and”\, support\, group mind\, communication\, trust and risk-taking. \nOur Improv Skills are every Tuesday and open to everyone regardless of improv experience level. If you’ve never improvised before\, that’s great! Our instructors are gentle and have plenty of experience to share. \nDrew McCalmon has over 15 years improv and theater performance experience. He received his improvisational training in Florida from the renowned SAK Comedy Lab in Orlando where he was a show host as well as well as a member of Generation ‘S’. Drew is also an alumni member of Absent Minded Improv in Orlando and Comedy Buffet in Winter Haven. Since moving to Hawaii in 2012 Drew has become an active member in the improv community and joined Think Fast soon after arriving. DESCRIPTION:“You must live in the present\, launch yourself on every wave\, find your eternity in each moment. Fools stand on their island of opportunities and look toward another land. There is no other land; there is no other life but this.” \n― Henry David Thoreau \nLiving in the moment. Mindfulness. Being in the present. Improv is all about responding to what is happening the moment. Good improvisers act in the present. They aren’t stuck in the past or planning for the future. Improv is chock-full of exercises and games designed to get you out of your head and into the present moment. Think Fast will be covering many of these in our Improv Skills: The Moment classes in February. \nFebruary’s Improv Skills Drop-In improv classes are focused on getting you to focus on the present moment to be a more effective performer and just enjoy life more. Topics to be covered include: getting out of your head\, focusing on the moment\, listening\, and heightening/supporting what’s happening on-stage. \nOur Improv Skills are every Tuesday and open to everyone regardless of improv experience level. If you’ve never improvised before\, that’s great! Our instructors are gentle and have plenty of experience to share. \nAbout The Instructor \nDrew McCalmon has over 15 years improv and theater performance experience. He received his improvisational training in Florida from the renowned SAK Comedy Lab in Orlando where he was a show host as well as well as a member of Generation ‘S’. Drew is also an alumni member of Absent Minded Improv in Orlando and Comedy Buffet in Winter Haven. Since moving to Hawaii in 2012 Drew has become an active member in the improv community and joined Think Fast soon after arriving. Drew created and directs the character-driven long form “The BFF Show” which appeared in Improvaganza 2014. \nClasses are held every Tuesday from 7:30 to 9:30.
