DESCRIPTION:Laughtrack Theater Company welcomes home from Chicago our prize alum\, our improv pride and joy\, our golden boy turned improviser badass for a two-day workshop and post-Thanksgiving show that is open to all LTC students and graduates. \nWorkshop participants can sign up for one or both days in advance of the workshop\, scheduled for November 23 and 24. Space is limited for each class and pre-registration is required. Enrollment is on a first-come\, first-served basis. \nHanada\, a local boy from Mililani turned Chicago transplant\, has been improvising — and loving it — since 2007. He has been teaching the art of improvisation since 2010\, and is responsible for implanting the imrov bug in people all across this universe (seriously). He is currently the Development Director for Chicago Improv Productions and is performing in their Education Outreach program and touring company\, while coaching the improv troupe\, The Rebound. \nWORKSHOP #1 – Date: November 23 (Saturday) \nBreaking Harold \nThis workshop will challenge students to take those Harold training wheels off! \nIn Breaking Harold students will probe even deeper into the Harold form by focusing on organic openings\, group commitment and expanding the beats of a scene. This workshop will challenge students to be inspired by different thematic choices.\n \nTime: 12pm-3pm (3 hour workshop)\nCost: $25 \nWORKSHOP #2 – Date: November 24 (Sunday) \nIt’s Scene Work\, Watson \nNaming someone ‘Dad’ in a scene does not mean you have created a relationship that the audience cares about. We’ve all been there\, seen that! Right? \nIn this workshop\, students will take an in-depth exploration of scene work. DESCRIPTION:Explore the fundamentals of improvisation through this exciting program which is geared for those with little or no acting or improvisation experience. It’s a great way to explore your creativity\, hone presentation skills\, explore spontaneity\, work without a script\, and become more confident and comfortable speaking in front of others. Students will learn the basic functions of improvised scene by creating characters and relationships while being in “the moment”\, they will learn to trust their instincts by developing the art of “yes and-ing” your scene partner\, explore different forms and styles as well as techniques\, learn to think on your feet and expand team building skills; all while having fun once a week in a safe\, non-judgmental environment. \nEach class meets once a week for an eight-week term \nThe introductory Level is the first of three class levels in the Fundamentals of Improv with Shannon Winpenny program.

Students will learn to create sketches using writing activities and lessons from TV classics like Mr. Show\, Saturday Night Live\, and Chappell’s Show. Assignments will require students to generate and develop ideas into written sketches of various forms\, and workshop activities will help them strengthen their execution and sharpen their humor. DESCRIPTION:THIS IS NOT TO BE MISSED!! \nTHE ART OF ALLOWING IMPROV WORKSHOP w/ MARK BELTZMAN \nThe ART OF ALLOWING IMPROV WORKSHOP is for the ensemble actor and improvisor who desires to cultivate the ability to flawlessly and spontaneously create magic on stage and in life. “IT” comes from a place of joy and connection to one’s source intuition\, and is attained by giving yourself to the art form through LISTENING rather than thinking\, from ALLOWING rather than forcing\, from being FULLY PRESENT in the moment and FOCUSING on CONNECTION with your partner and your environment. You will understand why making your partner look good makes you in turn look twice as good and makes the work flow. Ultimately\, you will understand that this is how ensemble is created. \nThis workshop will focus on scene work. You will learn to develop tools to let scenes emerge organically\, including: \ncultivating a heightened sense of listening\ncultivating a heightened sense of awareness of the scene around you\, i.e. environment\, textures\, emotions\, body languages\, sounds\, etc.\nlearning the game within the scene\nmaking your partner look good\nfinding the joy in the exploration\ngetting out of your own way to allow creativity to flow\nunderstanding that the true magic lies in the synchronicity of you\, your partner and the audience all discovering a point of focus at the same time \nABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: \nMark Beltzman has been acting\, writing and directing since 1981. He was a founding member of Improv Olympic in Chicago and of the legendary group\, Barons Barracudas. Mark has worked and directed at the famed Second City in Chicago. He directed many improvisational and theatrical productions at Second City in Chicago and Los Angeles\, including the Second City Alumni Jam. He was also instructor/director at The Second City Training Center\, Improv Olympic West and the Upfront Comedy Showcase as well as all over the UK\, London\, Brighton and Bristol.
