DESCRIPTION:At 10:0pm On the Spot will host The Late Night Inferno. Inspired by Dante’s inferno\, the show is improvised jam and competition based improv show where improvisers from all over the island are pitted against each other to see who can survive the trials of the Devil’s Advocate. Separated into rounds each improviser will perform a series of improv scenes. At the end of each scene the audience will score the performers. The performers with the highest score will advance to the next round while the performers with the lowest scores are sent to the inferno. The winner of the inferno not only gets to keep their soul but also wins a cash prize. \nThose interested in performing in the inferno can sign up online at www.facebook.com/otsimprov or the sign up the day of show. Their mission: to thoroughly amuse you through their razor sharp wit\, subtle intelligence\, and boundless creativity. Bringing to the stage varied levels of performance experience and a healthy mix of comedic style\, the crew will deliver deadpan to slapstick\, everything in between\, and usually all at once! So all aboard and set course for hilarity on The HMS Floppy Baby! \nHMS Floppy Baby is Laughtrack Theater’s 12th graduating class. The comedy scene in Honolulu has grown quickly in the past year\, with open-mic comedy nights sparking at venues around Oahu. It’s like nothing else you have ever seen. \nOIL will perform all-original music with all-improvised lyrics; it’s fresh rock with all the trappings. They’ve got great music. They’ve got attitude.\nThey’ve got a unique show: unlike most improv shows\, you won’t see the performers break character or ask for suggestions with an Emcee persona. O’Malley (vocals\, electric guitar) is a Philadelphia-born improviser\, musician\, and playwright who has lived in Honolulu for twenty years. During his 17-year stint as a founding member of improv group Loose Screws\, he directed an improvised full-length musical\, “Loose Screws Sing!?!” and was featured on shamisen in the nationally acclaimed improvised Kabuki\, “Screwbuki.” He’s composed musical scores for theatrical works as diverse as Euripedes’ The Trojan Women and Lee Cataluna’s Ulua: The Musical. That’s the premise—in reality\, veteran improvisers R. Kevin Garcia Doyle and Sean T.C. O’Malley improvise all the lyrics of Oil’s ‘classic hits’ backed by Eric Folk on drums\, with Brian X on bass (note: this week\, Andrew McLellan is filling in on bass for Brian X who will be rockin’ in DC with his band The Suburban Rejects). \nIt’s like a concert. It’s like an improv comedy show. It’s like nothing else you have ever seen. \nOIL will perform a 90-minute set of improvised rock songs with all the trappings. They’ve got great music. They’ve got attitude. \nThey’ve got a unique show: unlike most improv shows\, you won’t see the performers break character or ask for suggestions with an Emcee persona. Kevin Garcia Doyle (vocals) has been improvising in Hawaii for over twenty years. He was a founding member of Loose Screws and of the Hawaii Shakespeare Festival\, and has written\, directed and acted in shows for University of Hawaii at Mānoa\, Kumu Kahua\, Mānoa Valley Theater\, All The World’s A Stage and the Honolulu Theater for Youth. Doyle was the director of Loose Screws’ nationally acclaimed “Screwbuki\,” which toured to Chicago\, Los Angeles and Seattle. Professionally\, he is the director of the School of the Arts at Mid-Pacific Institute. \nSean T.C. O’Malley (vocals\, electric guitar) is a Philadelphia-born improviser\, musician\, and playwright who has lived in Honolulu for twenty years. During his 17-year stint as a founding member of improv group Loose Screws\, he directed an improvised full-length musical\, “Loose Screws Sing!?!” and was featured on shamisen in the nationally acclaimed improvised Kabuki\, “Screwbuki.” He’s composed musical scores for theatrical works as diverse as Euripedes’ The Trojan Women and Lee Cataluna’s Ulua: The Musical. DESCRIPTION:Hawaii’s longest running improv group ON THE SPOT will host a series of ongoing Saturday morning improv workshops starting Saturday August 11 at the ARTS at Marks Garage from 10am -12pm. These classes are designed with the idea that everybody can improv. Learning improv builds confidence and charisma. It’s fun and adventurous. \nIn Level 1 Improv students enrolled in the workshops will learn the fundamentals of improv and basic acting techniques in a hand’s on workshop environment. Students will also be able to think quickly on their feet and be comfortable performing without a script. By the end of first class session students in the class will be able to perform a simple improvised comedy scene in front of people. \nLevel 1 is team taught by a variety of different expert improvisers from the ON THE SPOT Ohana. After graduation\, he worked in New York and then Mexico and finally settled in Los Angeles\, California. \nHe has studied at IOwest\, The Second City and at the Upright Citizens’ Brigade Theater and performs regularly in such groups as Dr. God\, The Lusty Horde\, Trophy Wife and the Friday Forty. \nDavid was recently part of the Second City Tour Company on the high seas. O’Malley improvise all the lyrics of Oil’s ‘classic hits’ backed by stellar musicians Eric Folk on drums and Brian X on bass. \nIt’s like a concert. It’s like an improv comedy show. It’s like nothing else you’ve ever seen. \nOIL will perform a 90-minute set of improvised rock songs with all the trappings. They’ve got great music. Kevin Garcia Doyle (vocals) has been improvising in Hawaii for over twenty years. He was a founding member of Loose Screws and of the Hawaii Shakespeare Festival\, and has written\, directed and acted in shows for University of Hawaii at Mānoa\, Kumu Kahua\, Mānoa Valley Theater\, All The World’s A Stage and the Honolulu Theater for Youth. Doyle was the director of Loose Screws’ nationally acclaimed “Screwbuki\,” which toured to Chicago\, Los Angeles and Seattle. Professionally\, he is the director of the School of the Arts at Mid-Pacific Institute. \nSean T.C. O’Malley (vocals\, electric guitar) is a Philadelphia-born improviser\, musician\, and playwright who has lived in Honolulu for twenty years. During his 17-year stint as a founding member of improv group Loose Screws\, he directed an improvised full-length musical\, “Loose Screws Sing!?!” and was featured on shamisen in the nationally acclaimed improvised Kabuki\, “Screwbuki.” He’s composed musical scores for theatrical works as diverse as Euripedes’ The Trojan Women and Lee Cataluna’s Ulua: The Musical. His theatrical scripts have been performed at Kumu Kahua Theatre (Island Skin Songs\, To the Last Hawaiian Soldier\, and the Po’okela-award winning Wilcox’s Shot)\, the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa (Politicians\, Elections\, and Other Obscenities) and Honolulu Theatre for Youth. \nEric Folk (drums) plays skins for The Kaimana Band\, The Eric Lee Band\, and Honolulu crowd favorite Family Dinner. \nBri X (bass) has played rock’n’roll since the 80s with too many bands you’ve never heard of. \nSean and R. have been improvising together since 1993. Eric and Sean played together in a country band called “The Sleepin’ Dogs” in 2000. Bri and Sean played together in a band in the early 80s in Washington\, DC.

DESCRIPTION:What is the “game of the scene?” Why should I worry about this? Isn’t who/what/where enough? \nWho/what/where is a wonderful vehicle… but “game” will make your scenes GO! In this workshop\, we will work on giving your scenes focus and purpose by identifying and playing game. Practice finding games in organic scenes\, as well as starting scenes with a game in mind. We’ll also work your scenework muscles– playing with environment and emotion\, rather than doing “talking head” scenes. Improv is a live artform\, which means good improv should be good theatre! \nAbout Suzi: \nSuzi Barrett has been studying/performing/teaching improv for 13 years. She began in Chicago\, as a student of The Second City and ImprovOlympic\, and is a graduate of the Upright Citizens Brigade training center in L.A. (where she currently teaches). Suzi spent three years as a member of the famed Boom Chicago sketch and improv ensemble in Amsterdam\, and toured most of Europe with their touring company. She currently lives in L.A.\, where she plays with the UCB house team Sentimental Lady and the acclaimed two-person improv team Elephants Gerald\, and frequently appears with Gravid Water\, Soundtrack\, and UCB’s improvised musical: Diamond Lion. DESCRIPTION:Explore the fundamentals of improvisation through this exciting program which is geared for those with little or no acting or improvisation experience. It’s a great way to explore your creativity\, hone presentation skills\, explore spontaneity\, work without a script\, and become more confident and comfortable speaking in front of others. DESCRIPTION:This two-day workshop will tackle a variety of advanced concepts. In day one\, we’ll apply the UCB philosophy of “game” to your Harolds. You’ll learn how to pull games from your opening and apply them to your first beats; you’ll also learn how to initiate second beats that follow game rather than plot. Learn the difference between analogous games and time-dash games\, and practice choosing the one that best serves your harold.\nOn day two\, we’ll focus less on two-person scenes\, and more on group work.
