DESCRIPTION:On The Spot Improv will present “The 3rd Annual Project Genre Showcase on Saturday January 5 at the Arts at Marks Garage at 8:00pm. Project Genre is a program developed by On The Spot Improv to create new improvised shows inspired by researching genres of movies\, theater\, television\, and literary styles. This year Project Genre Showcase will feature two improvised shows based on movie styles. \nThe first is the world premiere of Dead Poets Club. A funny and poignant look at such coming of age dramas as “Dead Poets Society\, History Boys”\, and “Finding Forester.” The Dead Poets Club explores all the angst of young people struggling to find themselves. And with the guidance of their mentor\, an out of the box thinking maverick\, they might find out who they really are inside. The cast of Dead Poets Club is encouraging audience members to bring in original works of poetry and art to use in their improvisation. \nNext “On The Spot” will present their homage to classic film noirs of the 1940’s and 1950’s with “The Slow Fall Down.” The show is an improvised anthology of stories inspired by such classic movies like Double Indemnity\, Detour\, D.O.A\, Lady from Shanghai\, and The Maltese Falcon. On The Spot will also be drawing inspiration from the biggest stars of the era using all the charm of Humphrey Bogart\, The bravado of Edward G Robinson\, and the Sex Appeal of Lauren Bacall\, The Slow Fall Down is sure to entertain those familiar and unfamiliar with the genre. \n“The 3rd Annual Project Genre Showcase” starts at 8:00pm on January 5th at the Arts at Marks Garage. Kevin Garcia Doyle (vocals) has been improvising in Hawaii for over twenty years. He was a founding member of Loose Screws and of the Hawaii Shakespeare Festival\, and has written\, directed and acted in shows for University of Hawaii at Mānoa\, Kumu Kahua\, Mānoa Valley Theater\, All The World’s A Stage and the Honolulu Theater for Youth. Doyle was the director of Loose Screws’ nationally acclaimed “Screwbuki\,” which toured to Chicago\, Los Angeles and Seattle. Professionally\, he is the director of the School of the Arts at Mid-Pacific Institute. \nSean T.C. O’Malley (vocals\, electric guitar) is a Philadelphia-born improviser\, musician\, and playwright who has lived in Honolulu for twenty years. During his 17-year stint as a founding member of improv group Loose Screws\, he directed an improvised full-length musical\, “Loose Screws Sing!?!” and was featured on shamisen in the nationally acclaimed improvised Kabuki\, “Screwbuki.” He’s composed musical scores for theatrical works as diverse as Euripedes’ The Trojan Women and Lee Cataluna’s Ulua: The Musical. His theatrical scripts have been performed at Kumu Kahua Theatre (Island Skin Songs\, To the Last Hawaiian Soldier\, and the Po’okela-award winning Wilcox’s Shot)\, the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa (Politicians\, Elections\, and Other Obscenities) and Honolulu Theatre for Youth. \nEric Folk (drums) plays skins for The Kaimana Band\, The Eric Lee Band\, and Honolulu crowd favorite Family Dinner. \nBri X (bass) has played rock’n’roll since the 80s with too many bands you’ve never heard of. \nSean and R. have been improvising together since 1993. Eric and Sean played together in a country band called “The Sleepin’ Dogs” in 2000. Bri and Sean played together in a band in the early 80s in Washington\, DC.

DESCRIPTION:ON THE SPOT PRESENTS IMPROV SUPER SHOW SATURDAY AUGUST 4 AT THE ARTS AT MARKS GARAGE \nHawaii’s longest running improv group On the Spot will host an evening of outrageous improv with 4 shows or 1 super show. The evening will consist of 4 one hour long performance blocks which will feature two local improv groups and will culminate with both groups performing together in a mash up. In the last hour all the improvisers performing that evening will be perform in the late night Inferno jam session. \nGroups performing in the Improv Super Show will be “Oil In The Alley\, Think Fast\, The Hi Lo Show\, Sucker Punch\, HMS Floppy Baby\, and On The Spot\,” The entire evening hosted by Comedian Jose Dynamite. \nEach hour long performance block is $15\, or you can buy all four blocks or the Super Show for $30 \nAt 7:00pm Oil In the Alley and Think Fast will perform.\nAt 8:00pm The Hi Lo Show and Sucker Punch will perform\nAt 9:00pm HMS Floppy Baby and On the Spot will perform\nAt 10:00pm all the improvisers will perform in the Late Night Inferno Jam Session \nThis event is a fundraiser for the On the Spot’s annual Improvaganza Hawaii Festival of Improv happen September 27\, 28\, and 29 at the Arts at Marks Garage 1159 Nu’uanu Ave and The Venue 1144 Bethel street. \nImprov Super show starts at 7:00pm with performance blocks at 8:00pm\, 9:00pm and 10:00pm Tickets are $15 for each performance block or $30 for all four Super Show Blocks.
