DESCRIPTION:Mark Beltzman is coming back to Oahu!  We got A LOT of great feedback from his last workshops and we are SUPER excited to welcome him back to the islands! \nThe ART OF ALLOWING IMPROV WORKSHOP is for the ensemble actor and improvisor who desires to cultivate the ability to flawlessly and spontaneously create magic on stage and in life. “IT” comes from a place of joy and connection to one’s source intuition\, and is attained by giving yourself to the art form through LISTENING rather than thinking\, from ALLOWING rather than forcing\, from being FULLY PRESENT in the moment and FOCUSING on CONNECTION with your partner and your environment. You will understand why making your partner look good makes you in turn look twice as good and makes the work flow. Ultimately\, you will understand that this is how ensemble is created. \nThis workshop will focus on scene work. You will learn to develop tools to let scenes emerge organically\, including: \ncultivating a heightened sense of listening\ncultivating a heightened sense of awareness of the scene around you\, i.e. environment\, textures\, emotions\, body languages\, sounds\, etc.\nlearning the game within the scene\nmaking your partner look good\nfinding the joy in the exploration\ngetting out of your own way to allow creativity to flow\nunderstanding that the true magic lies in the synchronicity of you\, your partner and the audience all discovering a point of focus at the same time \nABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:\nMark Beltzman has been acting\, writing and directing since 1981. He was a founding member of Improv Olympic in Chicago and of the legendary group\, Barons Barracudas. Mark has worked and directed at the famed Second City in Chicago. He directed many improvisational and theatrical productions at Second City in Chicago and Los Angeles\, including the Second City Alumni Jam. He was also instructor/director at The Second City Training Center\, Improv Olympic West and the Upfront Comedy Showcase as well as all over the UK\, London\, Brighton and Bristol. Mark has also acquired a great deal of knowledge about the creative process of producing\, writing and directing while performing in such notable proudctions as: “Mo Money\, ” “Billy Madison\,” “The Wedding Singer\, “Seinfeld\,” “Rosanne\,” “House\,” and “Pretty Little Liars” to name a few. \n“Mark Beltzman is the funniest and most talented improvisor that I have ever worked with. SUMMARY:Maui Improv presents a one night workshop w/ Kimee Balmilero
DESCRIPTION:Ever feel like you’ve run out of ideas? Have no more scenes to do? Or wonder\, “WHEN IS THAT BLACK OUT GONNA HAPPEN?!” This workshop will focus on ways to get as much out of your suggestions and openings as possible. We will go through different types of openings as well as work on making strong and clear initiations that will have your scene partner(s) LOVING you! In this class we will also explore finding shiny objects and “game” of the scene. Students will have the opportunity to work through all the icky stuff and will walk out feeling even more ready to take on whatever the improv world has to throw at them..’cause you never know…;)About Improvhi:Improvhi\, was founded in 2012 by local girl turned professional actor Kimee Balmilero. Originally started as a website to help support the growing improv and sketch comedy scene\, improvhi specializes in classes\, workshops\, corporate training\, special events and also produces shows showcasing the work of local up and coming actors\, writers and artists. With a goal to spread the knowledge of improv and storytelling to not just actors\, but everyone…improvhi is excited to be working with the BizGym Foundation\, a 501c3 non-profit organization that seeks to empower entrepreneurs.About Kimee Balmilero:Originally from Kaneohe\, Kimee Balmilero’s credits include: The 3-time Emmy nominated TV Series “Hi-5\,” the Original Broadway Cast of “Mamma Mia\,” “Miss Saigon” and “Hawaii Five-0.” She has also had the honor to perform on the famous stages of the Kodak Theater and Radio City Music Hall. A former student of Ronald Bright and Marcelo Pacleb\, Kimee studied sketch and improv at The Uprights Citizens Brigade in NYC and Los Angeles. Kimee has performed both sketch and improv at UCBLA\, Second City – Hollywood and iO West. She is the founder of Improvhi.com\, a company focused on improv and sketch comedy in Hawaii and teaches theatre to kids as young as 5 to adults as young as 55. A self proclaimed “Sillypino” she enjoys garage sale hunting\, instagram-ing and dreaming of being a judge on “Top Chef.”
