In addition to completing the company’s three-level curriculum\, this group of performers was also fortunate to study with professional improvisers from Second City Chicago in a series of recent workshops. \nAll graduates of the Laughtrack Theater Company program are offered the chance to perform publicly in a professionally produced comedy show upon completion. Founded by Kim Potter and Shannon Winpenny in 2008\, Laughtrack has since graduated over a dozen advanced classes. Winpenny is a veteran of the Chicago improv community\, having spent ten years there performing with prestigious improv houses such as iO (formerly Improv Olympic) and Second City. \nVeteran improv groups Leg Full of Soup and Aftermath with Special Guest will also be performing for the three-part show featuring new group Requisite Octopus. The show will take place Saturday\, July 26 at 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 7 p.m.) at Laughtrack at The Creative\, 1116 Smith Street. The five arms of this group came together at laughtrack theater. Sitting looking at each other on that first day we all said shoot (probably didn’t say something so clean) what do we have in common? Then it became clear – we are all hung up on detail and analysis! Wow that does not sound funny – but maybe we are! The base of our interaction is influenced by our backgrounds in science\, finance\, and cartography and our limited experiences in theater and comedy. DESCRIPTION:Laughtrack Theater Company welcomes home from Chicago our prize alum\, our improv pride and joy\, our golden boy turned improviser badass for a two-day workshop and post-Thanksgiving show that is open to all LTC students and graduates. \nWorkshop participants can sign up for one or both days in advance of the workshop\, scheduled for November 23 and 24. Space is limited for each class and pre-registration is required. Enrollment is on a first-come\, first-served basis. \nHanada\, a local boy from Mililani turned Chicago transplant\, has been improvising — and loving it — since 2007. He has been teaching the art of improvisation since 2010\, and is responsible for implanting the imrov bug in people all across this universe (seriously). He is currently the Development Director for Chicago Improv Productions and is performing in their Education Outreach program and touring company\, while coaching the improv troupe\, The Rebound. \nWORKSHOP #1 – Date: November 23 (Saturday) \nBreaking Harold \nThis workshop will challenge students to take those Harold training wheels off! \nIn Breaking Harold students will probe even deeper into the Harold form by focusing on organic openings\, group commitment and expanding the beats of a scene. This workshop will challenge students to be inspired by different thematic choices.\n \nTime: 12pm-3pm (3 hour workshop)\nCost: $25 \nWORKSHOP #2 – Date: November 24 (Sunday) \nIt’s Scene Work\, Watson \nNaming someone ‘Dad’ in a scene does not mean you have created a relationship that the audience cares about. We’ve all been there\, seen that! Right? \nIn this workshop\, students will take an in-depth exploration of scene work. This cool intimate club is a beautiful setting and you’ll be up close with the rock heroes of your youth. \n[A more generic press release for the uninitiated follows] \nABOUT the OIL IN THE ALLEY Performance: \nOIL IN THE ALLEY were arena rock superstars twenty years ago and now they’re back! That’s the premise—in reality\, veteran improvisers R. Kevin Garcia Doyle and Sean T.C. O’Malley improvise all the lyrics of Oil’s ‘classic hits’ backed by Eric Folk on drums\, with Brian X on bass (note: this week\, Andrew McLellan is filling in on bass for Brian X who will be rockin’ in DC with his band The Suburban Rejects). \nIt’s like a concert. It’s like an improv comedy show. It’s like nothing else you have ever seen. \nOIL will perform a 90-minute set of improvised rock songs with all the trappings. They’ve got great music. They’ve got attitude. \nThey’ve got a unique show: unlike most improv shows\, you won’t see the performers break character or ask for suggestions with an Emcee persona. The show uses Invisible Improv\, with song title “suggestions” flowing naturally from the interactions between superstar rockers and you\, their superfans. \nOIL IN THE ALLEY has performed many times at LaughTrack Theatre\, as well as at Mark’s Garage\, at the Improvaganza Festival of Improv\, at the O’ahu Fringe Festival\, and on the Mainstage at the Hawaii Book and Music Festival. Kevin Garcia Doyle (vocals) has been improvising in Hawaii for over twenty years. He was a founding member of Loose Screws and of the Hawaii Shakespeare Festival\, and has written\, directed and acted in shows for University of Hawaii at Mānoa\, Kumu Kahua\, Mānoa Valley Theater\, All The World’s A Stage and the Honolulu Theater for Youth. Doyle was the director of Loose Screws’ nationally acclaimed “Screwbuki\,” which toured to Chicago\, Los Angeles and Seattle. Professionally\, he is the director of the School of the Arts at Mid-Pacific Institute. \nSean T.C. O’Malley (vocals\, electric guitar) is a Philadelphia-born improviser\, musician\, and playwright who has lived in Honolulu for twenty years. During his 17-year stint as a founding member of improv group Loose Screws\, he directed an improvised full-length musical\, “Loose Screws Sing!?!” and was featured on shamisen in the nationally acclaimed improvised Kabuki\, “Screwbuki.” He’s composed musical scores for theatrical works as diverse as Euripedes’ The Trojan Women and Lee Cataluna’s Ulua: The Musical. His theatrical scripts have been performed at Kumu Kahua Theatre (Island Skin Songs\, To the Last Hawaiian Soldier)\, the University of Hawaii at Mānoa (Politicians\, Elections\, and Other Obscenities) and Honolulu Theatre for Youth. \nEric Folk (drums) plays skins for The Kaimana Band\, The Eric Lee Band\, and Honolulu crowd favorite Family Dinner. \nBri X (bass) has played rock’n’roll since the 80s with too many bands you’ve never heard of. \nSean and R. have been improvising together since 1993. Eric and Sean played together in a country band called “The Sleepin’ Dogs” in 2000. Bri and Sean played together in a band in the early 80s in Washington\, DC.
